We undertook a total of 6 training missions this year. Our last one was in Nairobi, Kenya, and it was a wonderful way to end the year.
We were hosted by the Kenya Medical Training College, located adjacent to the Kenyatta National Hospital, one of the largest and most important hospitals in Africa. It has 1,800 beds, over 6,000 employees and 50 departments. With such a large space at our disposal, our work progressed unhindered.
During this mission 33 orthopedic technicians underwent 4 days of training, fitting 18 prostheses to amputees from all over Kenya.
A story that touched us all, is that of Blessing, a 5-year-old boy whose leg was amputated when he was just 6 months old. The family closest to him were deeply impacted by his trauma yet found the strength to transform their pain into a message of hope.
The training in Kenya reconfirmed the importance for SwissABILITY to expand our reach into other countries in Africa were there is also needs and possibilities.
