In June 2024, a training mission by SwissABILITY took place in northern Uganda, at the New Hope Bidibidi Rehabilitation Centre:an innovative rehabilitation centre built in 2021 in collaboration with the British NGO Hope Health Action, located within the Bidibidi refugee settlement.

It was a national-level training in Uganda with a specific goal: to make physical rehabilitation accessible to an increasing number of people across the country. Nineteen technicians participated, acquiring or refining new techniques for the production of low-cost and innovative prosthetics, coming from Uganda as well as South Sudan and Burundi.

Fifteen amputee patients benefited from the training week, receiving a new prosthesis either below knee, above knee, or for hip disarticulation.

The mission also provided the perfect opportunity to visit institutions, local associations, and orthopedic centres in neighboring South Sudan: a country severely ravaged by civil war but fighting for its future.
