New month, new country: in July, the SwissABILITY team finally traveled to Ghana!

From July 3-7, 2023, in fact, for the first time in our history, we organized a mission in Nsawam involving 23 orthopedic technicians and 10 amputee patients. A majority of these patients lost their limbs due to osteomyelitis, an infection of the bone usually caused by bacteria, microbacteria or germs. The absence of proper health care facilities frequently prevents treatment of this infection, and amputation is then inevitable.

The first mission to a country where SwissABILITY has a long-term commitment. In addition to organizing a training cycle over three years, SwissABILITY is also equipping an orthopedic center in northern Ghana with materials and machinery.

The innovative technologies we showcased during the training week will therefore be an invaluable treasure for the future of amputees in Ghana.
