In the middle of 2025, construction began on a new rehabilitation centre in Nkolo, Uganda. This new centre replaces a the rented house that the ‘Nkolo Orthopaedics Rehabilitation Centre’ was operating from a few kilometres away in the centre of the town. As you can see, the building in now complete!
A SwissABILITY team visited the new site in November 2025 and was impressed by the high quality of the construction. This achievement was made possible thanks to Nelson Mubiru, founder of the rehabilitation center, who carried out regular visits throughout the six-month construction period. Also present during the visit was the site manager—a dedicated and generous individual who invested part of his own financial resources to cover unforeseen costs related to the new center’s drinking water supply system.
During the next phase of the project, the center will be equipped with the machinery required to operate as a fully functional rehabilitation facility. Additional buildings will then be constructed to accommodate long-term staff and patients requiring short-term care.
