SwissABILITY‘s last mission of 2023 with a triple destination: Maputo, Quelimane, and Beira. The purpose? To visit ongoing projects, plan new initiatives, and organize a training for rehabilitation professionals.

Two intense an challenging weeks that have led us to achieve incredible milestones, thanks in large part to you, who make all of this possible with your donations and contributions!

In Maputo, we visited the Obra Dom Orione Institute, a facility that cares for numerous children with spasticity, disabilities, and severe motor and cerebral difficulties. To support this institution, SwissABILITY has created the “A Dream for Tomorrow” project, which aims to address the centre’s urgent needs to ensure its smooth operation. This visit provided the perfect opportunity to officially hand over a new van to the institute for transporting children with disabilities outside the facility.

In Quelimane, a training session brought together eight technicians and orthopedic apprentices from the city’s two hospitals. They enthusiastically attended the training thaught by Henrique Matsinhe and Isabel Campos. At the end of the week, it was possible to donate 12 prostheses to 10 amputated patients and 6 wheelchairsWheelchairs4Kids” to children with severe disabilities.

Finally, in Beira, SwissABILITY initiated the “A Home for All” project, providing new homes for 20 families living in extreme poverty who had lost everything due to the annual cyclones that hit the country.
